12 arrested in large scale anti-drug police operation in Exarchia

Multiple raids in houses and stores

12 people were arrested and large quantities of drugs confiscated during a large scale police operation in the area of Exacrhia, downtown Athens. The decision to cary out a police raid in the ‘anarchists’ stronghold’ in the centre of Athens was made after an Egyptian drug dealer known as ‘Habibi’ was gunned down by a group calling itself ‘Armed Militia Groups’. The Greek Ministry of Citizen Protection finally decided to take an aggressive approach causing a serious ‘blow’ to the drug rings in Exarchia. The raid was carried out after detailed planning and systematic groundwork, as Minister Toskas said later before the Greek parliament. The operation involved the cooperation of the undercover units, special riot units and the narcotics division, who scoured the area by raiding houses, warehouses and stores in Exarchia. Ten foreigners and two Greeks were arrested, while large quantities of drugs, along with precision scales, cash and guns were seized. The 12 suspects are scheduled to face the prosecutor on Tuesday.
