1,500 luxury homes at tourist retreats go under the hammer

The electronic auction at www.e-publicrealestate.gr is expected to draw the attraction of wealthy foreigners

The Tax Office is planning to auction off 1,500 mansions in popular tourist retreats, such as Santorini, Rhodes, Kos, Porto Heli, Paros and Mykonos. The luxury homes are going under the hammer because owners didn’t conform with their tax obligations. These seizures came after all stages of foreclosure had been exhausted.

The auction will take place through e-Auction, an electronic auction platform used by the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) for public land sales – www.e-publicrealestate.gr

It is believed that there will be a great deal of interest from abroad as affluent Arabs, Russians, Americans, Chinese and Germans amongst others will vie for prime real estate with just a few clicks.

500 offshore companies with property in Kimi and the islands

Over the last three months, the Control Center of Taxpayers Great Wealth (KEFOMEP) has targeted 184 mansions from a list of 500 or more offshore companies with property around Greece. It has already investigated over 100 owners that don’t pay taxes worth 15% of their value every year as specified by the law. Fifty of these are at Porto Heli, 11 are mansions and country homes at Kimi with balconies overlooking the Aegean and at least 5 are on Mykonos whereas others are on Santorini, Kefalonia, Corfu and Crete.
