24-hour strike in public transport in Athens

Workers protest against sell off of company to private interests

Commuters in Athens are expected to encounter slow traffic, as track-based public transport workers (STA.SY) are on a 24-hour strike. The subway services, tram and suburban railway routes will not be operating for Thursday, February 23. Workers have also scheduled 24-hour strikes for Monday, March 1 and Friday March 4 of next week. The workers demand the scrapping of a proposed legislative amendment they claim would pave the way for the sell off of the STA.SY company to private interests.
