61% of Germans are open to Grexit, poll reveals

The majority of Germans want Greece out of the euro zone if the country fails to stick to its commitments

According to the results of an opinion poll that were announced by German public broadcaster ARD, the majority of Germans want Greece out of the euro zone if the country fails to comply with the austerity measures agreed upon with its international lenders.

More specifically, 61% of the respondents said that they are open to a Grexit if Greece doesn’t stick to its commitments.

Moreover, 68% of the respondents said that they are opposed to erasing a chunk of Greece’s debt while 28% believe that this solution may help the economic recovery of the country.

It should also be noted that the majority of participants believe that a Greek exit from the euro zone would be much less dramatic for the rest of the European countries than a few years ago.
