A demilitarized zone in Eastern Ukraine

Both sides agreed to a a 30-kilometer demilitarized zone where armed groups are not allowed to enter

Representatives of the Ukrainian government and pro-Russians separatists agreed to stop fighting and create a demilitarized zone in order to bring lasting peace to eastern Ukraine.

“We have signed a memorandum,” said Leonid Kuchma, the Kiev government representative.

The agreement provides a 30-kilometer demilitarized zone, whereas use of weapons and fighter aircrafts is prohibited. Both sides also agreed to withdraw heavy weaponry within 15 km on each side.

According to the agreement, armed groups, military equipment, soldiers and hired soldiers are not allowed to enter the demilitarized zone.
