A new 72-hour Gaza ceasefire takes effect

Negotiations for a more lasting truce are continued

Israel and Palestine agreed to a new 72-hour ceasefire which took effect at midnight Monday, hours after Israeli bombings killed four Palestinians and armed groups fired rockets toward Israel.

Officials said that during the 3-day ceasefire, there will be extensive negotiations to reach a more lasting truce. Egypt insisted the ceasefire would not only allow negotiations to proceed but also pave the way for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, according to Associate Press.

Over this month-long conflict 1895 Palestinians and 67 Israelis have lost their lives.
