A new museum in Ioannina

The museum showcases the rich work of Greek silversmiths since the 15th century

In the most beautiful side of Ioannina, where the castle of the town dominates, a new museum is was inaugurated by the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
The Silversmithing Museum of Ioannina is the ninth museum established by the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, an organization that promotes traditional Greek crafts, and showcases the rich work of Greek silversmiths since the 15th century.
The museum’s permanent exhibition presents the art of silverwork through the centuries, showing equipment and techniques. Furthermore, the museum gives emphasis in Ioannina and the Epirus region, highlighting the socio-economic context in which the local workshops developed and the specific cultural identity of the region, closely linked to the silverwork. The consruction of the museum was completed with the valuable help of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation’s President Sofia Staikou. The opening of the museum was held in a beautiful day, with the sun lighting the wood and the stone of the beautiful, new museum.
