Alternate Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis admitted on Friday that more taxes will be imposed saying that “Of course there will be a further tax burden on 2016 incomes, but it will be fair and proportionate from a certain income level upwards”.
Speaking in Parliament, Mr. Alexiadis said that “The title I would give for country’s tax history is: The worse times have ended, but the worst are coming” .
Mr. Alexiadis also stated that taxpayers will be able to submit their income tax reports for 2015 from next week adding that there would not be any retroactive measure.
Moreover, he said that press reports over additional tax burdens on wages of between 1,500-2,000 euros were excessive and hypocritical. He admitted, though, that the tax system still remains unfair.
“It is clear that the current tax system is not the one that will help the society and the economy to grow. There is pressure, because of agreements made, but we try to take reasonable actions, which in many cases are unreasonable and unfair,” he said.
