Another one gone: MEP Sophia Sakorafa leaves SYRIZA

She will support anti-memorandum bloc

MEP Sophia Sakorafa, who had been elected at the European Parliament under the SYRIZA ballot, announced she would leave the leftist party in a statement released Friday. The former champion javelin thrower and close friend of Zoe Konstantopoulou is the second MEP that leaves SYRIZA after Nikos Chountis had joined the new Popular Party. In her resignation statement she did not explicitly say she would back Panagiotis Lafazanis’s Popular Unity party, but said she would rally behind the forces of the ‘No’ vote in the July referendum.
