Antiquities fill ISIS coffers

Palmyra will net them tens of millions

ISIS continues conquering one city after another, with Palmyra having fallen already.

The ancient city has been classified as an international monument.

According to Jonathan Schanzer, VP of the Protection of Democracy institute, ISIS gains most of its money from looting and illegal sale of ancient artefacts in the black market. Analysts speaking on BuzzFeed News described Palmyra as a huge boon to ISIS since most of the ancient items they will loot, will be sold to the black market for tens of millions of dollars.
