Best condom award at ‘Oscars for porn’

The award was announced at a three-day pornography festival hosted by Adult Video Network

A few days ago, the Adult Video Network (AVN) Awards hosted a three-day pornography festival that celebrates the industry’s top talent and coolest innovations.

Among the award categories was one for the best condom manufacturer. Japanese company Kimono won beating big name brands like Durex and Trojan.

For more than 25 years, Kimono has been producing the “MicroThin” condoms, which are the thinnest on the market, as the company claims. They’re supposed to slip on and feel invisible without sacrificing strength or reliability, as its website mentions.

Chrissy Feine, a nurse and former director of Semcac Family Planning Clinic, explained in a 2013 video posted to YouTube that they choose lesser known brands like Kimono because it is one of the highest consumer-rated brands in the market.

“The reason why you haven’t heard of a lot of the names is because their marketing is more so for public health use and what we do,” says Feine, adding that Trojan and Durex spend many money on advertisements.
