Boeotia wildfire continues to rage (photos+video)

Winds have dropped

A forest fire that started Saturday night continues to rage on two fronts in the area of Stefani, near Dervenochoria in Boeotia, even though strong winds have receded. A pine forest has ben completely destroyed. 140 firefighters, 65 vehicles, a 66-member hiker unit, 2 aeroplanes and 4 helicopters are operating to contain the spread of the blaze. The fire is burning in two fronts, one on the southwest in the area of Magoula and another with an eastward direction on the side towards Elefsina. The fire fighting land forces have focused their efforts on the east front  to prevent its spread to Parthina.  department said no residential areas were in any immediate threat from the fire.

Meanwhile, a CL_215 fire extinguishing airplane operating in the Boeotia wildfire fell on Sunday on the borders of Boeotia and Attica regions, approximately 1km north of the ’Titan’ cement factory. Both pilots are safe. The plane does not have an automatic ejection system for the crew, which means they were forced to do an emergency landing and then abandoned the aircraft. The two pilots are being transported to hospital.
