British Foreign Secretary says immigrants undermining European standard of living

UN says UK acts ‘racist’

UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond was undeterred by criticism by the UN for ‘racism’ stating that African immigrants were undermining the European standard of living, during a visit in Singapore. Hammond said the UK’s top priority was sending would be asylum seekers back where they came from. Speaking to the BBC he underlined that Europe could not absorb millions of migrants from Africa. Commenting on what needed to be done to solve the immigration crisis, Hammond said that as long as European Union laws were the way they are migrants would only have to set foot in Europe to be confident that they would never be returned to their country of origin. His comments came on the heels of a UN’s special rapporteur on human rights, who said that Britain’s approach to the ‘courageous’ migrants at Calais was tantamount to ‘racism’.
