Cash from Russia; political negotiation? Yanis’ notepad doodles in plain view

Nice legible letters, too!

Staged or a clue into his thinking?

A long-range view of FinMin Yanis Varoufakis’ notepad, taken on Friday during debate in Parliament, showed various hand-written notes.

One purportedly refers to an expectation by Greek government of five billion euros from … Russia! That figure more-or-less corresponds to the pre-payment of expected revenues from a pipeline through Greece carrying Russian natgas — a project still on drawing board.

“We’re hoping for a political negotiation” is another note jotted down, followed by “we have it”, i.e. political negotiation.

More ominously, there’s another scribble stating that “it’s not possible to continue like this”.

Other stand-alone words are “polyphony” and “Chinese”.

Of course, photographers have previously taken long-range shots of ministers’ notepads before, and from the exact same spot where Varoufakis was sitting, so it wasn’t a first-time occurrence. Nice legible letters, too!
