Delphi claims title of European Capital of Culture 2021

Town known as the “naval” of the world prepares its bid

The Region of Central Greece has put up a bid for Delphi to claim the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021. The statement from the region said: “Delphi is undoubtedly a world-class cultural monument.”

The local authority plans to create a joint working group to prepare the town’s bid in the best possible way.

Background

The European Capital of Culture was established in 1985 by former actress/former culture minister Melina Mercouri. Athens, Thessaloniki and Patra have served as European Capitals of Culture  in 2985, 2997 and 2006.
