DIMAR member breaks ranks and urges his party to vote for Dimas

It should be noted that Democratic Left (DIMAR) on Sunday rejected Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ proposal

DIMAR member and former Deputy Minister of Education Theodoros Papatheodorou stated on Monday that he is completely satisfied with the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras proposal for political consensus in order to avert snap national elections.

More specifically, the former Deputy Minister noted that Mr. Samaras proposal moves in the same direction as the initiative that was conceived and announced by eight deputies of the Greek parliament.

The above mentioned deputies were asking for political consensus in order to elect a president, complete the negotiations with the country’s lenders and review the constitution. Moreover, both proposals refered to the possibility of holding national elections by the end of 2015.

“This is an important step to achieve the national consensus that is required to keep the country out of trouble. And by ‘trouble’ I don’t mean the elections themselves but the political climate that surrounds them, the wrong timing and the way the country is being dragged into them. The text of the eight MPs is a serious and realistic solution. It had my support from the very beginning, and I support it even more now, because we have to rid ourselves of those who want to invest in political decline and generalized suspicion in order to survive,” said Mr. Papathodorou in his statement.

It should be noted that Democratic Left (DIMAR) on Sunday rejected Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ proposal for consensus to overcome the crisis.

In an official announcement the party stated that its members have decided against the election of President of Republic by the current parliament because the policies that hold the society and the economy in a mire must not continue.
