Forget the luxury resort, free camping at a beach is a great way to experience paradise without the trappings. Just pitch a tent and settle with your caravan.

Legrena Attica
The small coastal town on the coast of the Attica peninsula lies to the west of Sounion and 60km East of Athens.The area is dotted with secret beaches that will make you forget how near Athens you really are. Come prepared with your own food as there are no canteens near the area.

Corinthian Gulf

Just an hour away from Athens, the place is ideal for camping. There are four different species of dolphin in the area that sometimes come in mixed flocks, a rare phenomenon. Greenpeace and ACCOVAMS have suggested categorizing the Corinthian Gulf as a standard marine reserve for Greece and the Mediterranean. Enjoy the exquisite beaches in the area, with many to choose from between Schino and Alepohori.

Angistri

Just 55-minutes from the Port of Piraeus, Angistri is a favorite haunt of free-style campers. Their prefered area of choice is Dragonera and Chalikiada. The people gathered are everything from young nature lovers to throwback hippies and revolutionaries of another era. The crystal-clear waters in the area make you feel that you are on an exotic island. Swim, hike and bike-ride around the small island.

Vythouri Beach, Evia

Just behind Dirfys mountain, the beach is famed for its crystal-clear waters. It’s very small but empty and cosy. Free camping reigns supreme at this little piece of paradise. Make sure you pack food as there is no canteen in the area.

VYTHOURI

Mageiras Beach, Evia

40 mins away from Chalkida, the capital of Evia, the beach is easily accessible with an asphalt road that takes you all the way to the beach. There is no nearby tavern, but still draws crowds in August due to its easy accessibility. If it gets too crowded head to nearby Agioi Apostoloi, Heromylos or Stomio.

Chiliadou, Evia

Free campers rejoice here thanks to a huge beach. Just find a cave and enjoy your spot on this earthly paradise. There are 1-2 canteens in the area as well as 2-3 taverns nearby.

Gavdos

A southermost Greek island in the regional unit of Chania, the area appears in the biblical account of Paul’s journey to Rome and there is something spiritual about it. Leave your swimming costume behind as the area, with less than 50 residents, is a nudist paradise featured on naturalist guidebooks. Accessible only by boat!
