Doctors and educators ‘whisked away’ millions abroad

415 million former public employees after taking millions of euro abroad retired from the public sector. In the majority are doctors and educators

As resulted from the inquiries by the Inspector Controllers team of the Public Administration, from 2010 until today 5,260 employees of the public sector ‘whisked away’ abroad through remittances a total of 1.5 billion euro.
According to information from the Ministry of Administrative Reform, 415 of the 5.260 public servants who took their money abroad no longer work in their departments.

After examination the average remittance per employee reaches the 275.000 euro, while 329 of them have sent remittances totaling to over 600.000 euro each.

Although resignation or retirement from the public sector employment by itself does not inhibit in any way the tax audit, there will be investigations.

Government Officials who have left for various reasons will also be checked.

Finally according to information the ongoing investigations by the Ministry of Administrative Reform will rapidly continue also for the active employees of the public sector which have taken money to foreign banks.
