EU Commission: Completion of the program’s review does not only depend on us

European Commission spokesman said that the first round of the negotiations was constructive

The first round of negotiations was constructive said European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said on Monday reiterating that intensive work at technical level should continue in order to reach an agreement.

“The European Commission will do its best in order to achieve the rapid completion of the program’s review. However, this does not only depend on us,” Mr. Schinas said regarding the date of the institutions’ representatives return in Athens.

Asked by Proto Thema journalist Ioannis Antypas on when representatives will return in Athens, he said intensive work at technical level continue so that the heads of the institutions’ representatives return “as soon as possible” in order to reach an agreement on a technical level in the coming weeks.

He also said that the first round of the negotiations was “constructive” adding that “substantial progress was recorded in several issues.”
