EU Commissioner D. Avramopoulos doesn’t exclude ND-SYRIZA government

EU Migration and Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos believes that a joint conservative New Democracy-Coalition of the Left SYRIZA government should be considered if this is what the people want

European Commissioner for Migration, Dimitris Avramopoulos, spoke with the Sunday edition of Kathimerini newspaper and said that “politicians and parties are obliged to find the most beneficial and democratic route” in doing what the people want. In this regard, he believes that a collaboration between the conservative New Democracy party and the main opposition Coalition of the Left (SYRIZA) is possible.

The Greek Commissioner said that Greece needs “stability and unity” above all.

Regarding his EU portfolio in Migration and Home Affairs, he said that it is important to protect the European borders by stopping those who invest in illegal immigration.

Mr. Avramopoulos sent a warning to Turkey following its violation of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Cyprus by stating that tension will not benefit its European entry prospects nor help in furthering the interests of the Atlantic alliance.
