EU is not the ‘sole option’ for Turkey, new EU Affairs Minister says

He told reporters that Turkey wants the EU to drop its “double standards” in the fight against terrorism

Turkey’s new minister for EU affairs, Omer Celik, said that Turkey’s relationship with the European Union is very important but it is not the “sole option” for Ankara, as Reuters reports.

Celik, who has replaced Volkan Bozkir in the new cabinet named by Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Tuesday, told reporters that Turkey wants the EU to drop its “double standards” in the fight against terrorism.

On Thursday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned the European Union that Turkey would block laws related to the agreement to stem the flow of migrants to Europe, if Ankara was not granted its basic demand of visa-free travel.
