“Everyday crime” on the rise in Greece

Law enforcement authorities are ringing the alarm are the robberies across the country are on the rise

The number of robberies across the country has risen significantly in the first half of 2016 compared to last year, according to police data. A total of 2,456 robberies were recorded in the period stretching from January to June, compared to 2,203 incidents in the same period last year.
In Attica, there were 1,867 robberies compared to 1,648 in the first six months of 2015, while Thessaloniki also a posted a rise, with 336 robberies against 265 last year.
Nationwide, during the first six months of 2016 37,454 robberies were recorded, compared to 36,329 last year, according to ELAS, while bank robberies were reportedly down.
