An elderly couple was attacked and severely injured by burglars on Sunday at the town of Styra, in Evia island.

At around two o’ clock in the morning, when the old man was about to enter his home he got attacked by two men wearing hoods who started punching and hitting him.

Then, they dragged him to the house where they tied both him and his wife hand and foot. Although the severe beating had already caused rib fractures to the man, his ordeal unfortunately did not end there.

After persistently asking the elderly couple to reveal where kept their money and jewelry, the robbers decided to torture the man by burning his face with an electric iron! Shorty after the torture, the two robbers fled with all the valuables they managed to get and the ordeal of the elderly couple ended.

Both of the victims were taken to Karystos hospital and the woman was released a few hours later.

The case is currently under investigation by the police.

It should be noted that this is not the first incident involving burglars who attack elderly people with irons in an attempt to rob them.

Many such incidents have taken place in the last year, leading the police to the conclusion that this is the modus operandi of a single gang of burglars.
