Faliron Bay – Remodelling the Athens coastline

Poseidonos Ave. will move further South and parts of it will go undergound as it is covered by a park

Secretary General of Public Works Stratos Simopoulos told NERIT TV station that the government is planning to auction the fundamental remodelling of Faliron Bay in the southern part of Athens in the Fall. “We are talking about a project that will allow Athens to ‘breathe’ again. We are practically re-placing the city at the park and the park at the sea”, noted Simopoulos, adding that “the project is the product of the cooperation of three ministries”, specivically, the ministries of Tourism, Environment and Infrastructure. The construction phase of the project is to run for three years and a contractor will be named in May.

The Faliron Bay project will move Poseidonos Avenue on the coast to 90 meters to the South with parts of it going underground, covered by a park. Various anti-flooding works and other interventions will supplement the project.
