Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta dies at 82

Famous fashion designer Oscar de la Renta passed away on Monday evening at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer, according to an announcement released by the fashion house this morning.

One of the most talented U.S. fashion designers, Mr. de la Renta built a highly successful career which lasted almost six decades.

Even in his last days, he remained active and creative, and his beautiful feminine clothes were very popular among celebrities. In fact Oscar de la Renta dressed Amal Alamuddin in September for her wedding to George Clooney.

Oscar de la Renta was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1932. He was trained by Cristóbal Balenciaga and Antonio del Castillo and became internationally known in the 1960s as one of the couturiers to dress Jacqueline Kennedy.

An award-winning designer, he worked for Lanvin and Balmain; his eponymous fashion house continues to dress leading figures, from film stars to royalty, into the 2010s.
