Femen determined to make Greece their next stop

There are some Greece women that may be willing to adopt this controversial way of protest

After Femen’s latest stunt in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, where topless Inna Shevchenko rushed the nativity scene snatching the Baby Jesus figurine, the Ukrainian feminist protest group is determined to make Greece their next stop, as they believe that the country “feeds” far right extremism.

According to Inna Sevchenko, the leader of Femen group, Greece is among the countries that are considered strategically important for the organization, due to the rise of extreme right. According to Femen, the main reason behind the group’s decision to open a “local branch” is the rise of the extreme right ideology in Greece and far right Golden Dawn’s presence in the political scene of the country.

Moreover, Femen protest group claims to be “a strong left opposition” and “a medicine against fascism.” Members of the organization told Proto Thema newspaper that another reason for thinking to expand in Greece is the fact that more and more women are being affected by poverty, due to the financial crisis facing the country in the last four years.

Although official statistics show that unemployment affects equally men and women, the feminist group believes otherwise and expresses the wish to “fight for this beautiful and disappointed country” called Greece.

Although the group’s members have refused to reveal the exact stage of the preparations for their expansion, the initiative of a music producer last year to protest for the shutting down of public television by taking off her blouse shows that there are some Greece women that may be willing to adopt this controversial way of protest.
