Fire breaks out at Moria hotspot on Lesvos for unknown reasons – One child dead (Upd.)

More than 5500 people have been evacuated from the hotspot!

 

A fire fanned by strong winds blowing in the area on Monday broke out at the Moria Reception and Identification Centre (RIC) on the island of Lesvos, in the asylum-seekers’ camp.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and the RIC is being evacuated after the alarm was raised.

The fire brigade’s task is considered especially difficult due to the many tents and other structures crowded together in the camp.

According to information a child has died from the fire.
