Foreign minister chairs joint foreign-energy ministry meeting on fossil fuel issues

The meeting discussed issues linked to the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and the prospects of constructing alternative energy routes

Government Vice-President and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Wednesday chaired a joint meeting of the foreign and environment, energy and climate change ministries, also attended by Environment, Energy and Climate Change Minister Yiannis Maniatis.

The meeting discussed preparations for the concessions to carry out exploratory drilling and exploit fossil fuels in Greek marine zones, as well as issues concerning the policy for fuel pipelines and storage areas for liquified natural gas.

The meeting also discussed issues linked to the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and the prospects of constructing alternative energy routes, such as a central Aegean-Baltic corridor.

Finally, they noted the critical importance of the national LNG infrastructure at Revythousa and the prospects of upgrading, not just for Greece but for the European Union’s regional energy policy as a whole.
