FYROM raises a fence at Greek-FYROM borders

The government had pre-announced that they would start the works for the construction of the fence, if European countries reduced the number of refugees accepted

“FYROM started raising a fence along its borders with Greece on Saturday morning” stated to Athens news agency a source of Kilkis police department responsible for guarding the borders at Idomeni area where thousands of refugees arrive aiming to enter FYROM and then go to Central and North Europe.

“About 500 people wearing military uniforms are working in the area putting metal pipes of half meter height and at a distance of three meters each. They have already placed a wire within a hundred meters of the side of Axios,” he added.

FYROM government had pre-announced that by mid-November they would start the works for the construction of the fence at its borders with Greece, if European countries reduced the number of refugees accepted and the decision was taken by the National Security Council of the country.

In a statement it was stressed that “such a fence does not aim at closing the borders but reducing the number of refugees entering the country, according to the number of refugees and immigrants that other European countries will accept”.
