German man shoots refugees with air rifle

The suspect was not arrested as “there were no ground for arrest”

A 5-year-old girl and a teenager have been injured after a man opened fire on a refugee shelter in Germany with an air rifle.

A 21-year-old man has been accused of shooting at the refugee shelter from his third floor apartment  located just 40 meters away from the camp in the northwestern German town of Lingen.

Both children were transferred to the hospital, while police searched the man’s apartment and reportedly seized the air rifle and munitions.

However, the suspect was not arrested as “there were no ground for arrest”, according to police spokeswoman. Police also said that the investigation was ongoing adding that “it is unclear if the act was politically motivated.”
