German press on Karamanlis: Bankruptcy former PM makes his comeback

Frankfurter Rundschau speaks of potential candidacy of the former Prime Minister for the Presidency of the Republic

The scenario of former Prime Minister being candidate for Greek  President of the Republic claims German Frankfurter Rundschau.

According to the report “For many Greeks the name Kostas Karamanlis does not bring music to their ears, since the former Prime Minister back in 2009 brought sovereign default. However, this does not prevent the party’s conservative politician friends to bear the name of Karamanlis again. ”

Further, Frankfurter Rundschau believes that the scenario was triggered by the recent meeting between the current Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Mr. Kostadinos Karamanlis at the Hilton hotel.

The report also highlights that a possible return of Mr. Karamanlis will have caused surprise, since “the name Karamanlis is inextricably linked to the Greek debt disaster”.

Finally, the journalist notes that the environment of Karamanlis supports that he is not interested in the Presidency of the Republic, however, denial sounds inadequate as long as he doesn’t confirm it himself.
