Gigantic HD digital TV installed in Times Square (watch the video)

A new age in advertising?

The famous New York Times Square inaugurated the largest HD digital TV in the world. It is almost as big as a football field.

Installed in front of a hotel, the display is “equivalent” with  an eight story building (23.74 meters) and has a length of 100.5 meters, covering the whole space between 45th and 46th avenue in the heart of Times Square. The giant screen which covers a whole  block is now the biggest advertising space in the historic square.

It has 24 million pixels, a density unmatched in the world for such a display, which allows passersby to have a very clear picture even when they are close to the screen, according to Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Inc, which is the maker of this technological marvel.

The giant screen is also connected to HD cameras in order to broadcast live images through social networks.

Google is expected to be the first company to be advertised on the huge screen since it will be leased until January. The price was not revealed, but it surely surpasses 2.5 million dollars for up to four weeks, according to the New York Times. The amount seems extreme but it is tiny, if one considers the hundreds of thousands of people who flock and pass by Times Square, daily.
