Government postpones the privatization of Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company

They plan to reduce the political cost as much as possible

The government postpones the issue of privatization of the Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company(EYDAP) while it reconsiders the overall context of seashores.

Mr. Evangelos Venizelos, Government Vice-President, when asked about the privatization of EYDAP after his meeting with Prime Minister, he said that “we must respect the decision of the Council of State”.

The Supreme Court decided last May that the privatization of the company is against the constitution. The privatization of EYDAP will have major political cost for the coalition government.

Therefore, the government prepares for the next major issue, the privatization of seashores and argues that the first draft has been changed. Also, Mr. Samaras and Venizelos want to inform the public in order to prevent the opposition parties from creating a negative climate and to highlight the positive elements of the bill for Greek economy.
