Govt sources: No debt servicing if lenders don’t disburse installments

‘Greece is the only country to repay its debt without refinancing from own national resources and internal borrowing’ was the ‘leaked’ comment

Unnamed government sources on Friday used an “informal setting” to lob another “bombshell” towards “… all levels of the eurozone and IMF, that it (Greek government) will not continue servicing the public debt via its own resources if lenders do not immediately disburse installments, which have been delayed since 2014.”

The comment came as the group of top advisers to the Greek PM considered a list of reforms that will be the focus of the “Brussel Group” on Friday.

Beyond the abrupt spike in gruff talk, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras’ closest aides mostly focused on the coordination of government actions and legislative initiatives.

In a relatively informal briefing, Prime Minister’s associates focused to begin with on preparation of SYRIZA before the elections and the coordination of action taken immediately after.
Described as an “informal meeting”, top government official nevetheless touched on the issue of when to convene government bodies as well as the issue of promotions of top military and police leadership.

In regards to legislative work, SYRIZA’s oft-repeated draft bill to deal with what the leftist party calls a “humanitarian crisis” in the country, a measure to allow payment of debts to the state in 100 installments, re-establishing the former national broadcaster as it was as well as the government’s insistence on abolishing maximum security prison was also discussed.
Expectedly, other discussion touched on crucial negotiations with lenders, with government sources leaking the following phrase to the media: “Greece is the only country to repay its debt without refinancing, but from its own national resources and internal borrowing”.
