Govt confusion regarding 23% tax hike in private education

Will there or won’t there be tax hikes to ALL private education institutions?

There is confusion in Greece concerning the 23% tax hike to be imposed on private education in Greece. “The 23% VAT tax in private education is being re-examined to ensure its just application,” stated a ministerial announcement. “As a first step, it has been decided that it should not be imposed on private preschools.”

Shortly afterwards, a corrective announcement was issued without the reference to preschools. Two Greek newspapers, Ta Nea and Ethnos, point to sources that state that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will open the debate in Greek Parliament on Monday evening with an announcement pointing to a “freeze” in measures concerning taxes to private education until equivalent measures are found.
