Greece is “fueling” Germanys health system

Romania holds the first place with 3,215 physicians and third is Austria with 2,189 doctors working in Germany

A total of 31,500 doctors working in hospitals in Germany are foreign, with 2,500 of them being Greek. A number that gives our country the 2nd place with “gastarbeiter ” functionaries of Hippocrates.

According to Bloomberg information, Romania holds the first place with 3,215 physicians and  third is Austria with 2,189 doctors, working in Germany.

Overall, the last five years have emigrated from Greece approximately 7,300 doctors-only by the Medical Association of Athens, the biggest in the country, heading mainly in Britain, Germany and Sweden.

According to the president of the Athens Medical Association Mr. Giorgow Patoulis, “this singular medical migration wave drag now and hundreds of medical specialists, looking for work in general and not just a position in their field.”

Protothema.gr spoke with two Greek doctors in Germany

The 27-year old Ms. Iro Zachos for the last eight months has been working as an intern doctor in Germany, and has trained in internal medicine at the hospital Klinikum Duisburg. “I had no choice but choose a European country for specialty” tells the young doctor.

Another doctor , 36 year old Mr.George Karkatzoulis lives and works in Germany since 2009.’s One of only 750 Greek  doctors who left our country that year in his case more by choice rather of necessity.
