Greece needs costs and taxes cuts, Mitsotakis told Merkel during their meeting

ND leader presented his party’s alternative program of a different fiscal policy mix

The need for a different fiscal policy mix which would focus on cutting costs and taxes, stressed New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Luxembourg on Monday.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of an event marking the 40-year anniversary of the European People’s Party (EPP) and among the issues discussed was the refugee issue and Greek economy.

According to party sources, Mr. Mitsotakis also said the current government coalition of SYRIZA and ANEL cannot accomplish the necessary reforms that will allow Greece to reach a GDP growth of 4%.

Based on the same sources, ND leader explained to Mrs. Merkel his party’s alternative proposal which was recently presented to the Greek Parliament for reducing primary to 2% with a simultaneous increase in the annual growth rate at 4%.
