Greece to receive EU funds to handle migration crisis

30 million euros to be disbursed

The Ministry of Interior informed Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos that Interior Minister Antonis Manitakis has sent all relevant documents concerning the formation of the authority that will manage EU funds for dealing with migration.

Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said that the Commission was examining these documents as a matter of urgency in order to immediately disburse 30 million euros that Greece will use to handle the migration crisis.

Greek authorities have also informed the Commission of their intention to submit an official request to activate the civil protection mechanism, Schinas said.
