Greek-Albanian collaboration in writing textbooks for Greeks

Greece and Albania have agreed to collaborate on writing a joint book for the Greek minority living in Albania

Greek Education Minister Andreas Loverdos and his Albanian counterpart Lindita Nikolla discussed a bilateral cooperation in writing school books for the Greek minority of Albania. They signed a cooperation protocol clarifying the methodology of the project following a meeting held in Tirana.

Mr. Loverdos said that both countries are interested in coming closer to develop partnerships in education and making use of each others research centers, archives and libraries. He said that relevant discussion on the collaboration concerning the new school books are to begin in a meeting held in Athens at the start of 2015.

On her part, Ms. Nikolla said that she is interested in creating “bridges of friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring countries” to the mutual benefit of Greeks living in Albania and Albanians living in Greece.

Mr. Loverdos also met with Archbishop Anastasios of Albania who briefed him on the work of the Greek Orthodox Church. The delegation of the Education Ministry also visited the region of Argyrokastro to meet with members of the city’s Greek community.
