Greek diplomat dies falling onto railway tracks in Thailand

The Greek diplomat reportedly lost her life when she tried to step out of the moving train in order to photograph the river, lost her balance and fell on the tracks.

Mrs. Aristea Liapi, an attaché at the Greek embassy at Bangkok, was killed in a tragic accident in her attempt to photograph River Kwai, during her family vacation in this area of Thailand.

The Greek diplomat reportedly lost her life when she tried to step out of a moving train in order to photograph the river, lost her balance and fell on the tracks. Her head was then crushed by the moving train.

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the following announcement regarding the loss of Bangkok Embassy staff member Aristea Liapi:

We express grief at the accident that resulted in the tragic loss of colleague Aristea Liapi, a member of the staff of the Bangkok Embassy, where she served conscientiously and with ethos during the past two years. The political and administrative leadership of the Foreign Ministry and all of Aristea Liapi’s colleagues express their deep condolences to her loved ones.
