Greek President Pavlopoulos visits buffer zone in Nicosia

He expressed his grief because a EU area is under military occupation, which is something that cannot be tolerated.

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos visited the old town of Nicosia, Cyprus’ capital city, on Tuesday and walked the streets of the buffer zone, the demilitarised area patrolled by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.

The so-called “Green Line” cuts through the centre of the old town separating the city into southern and northern sections. While in the area, the Greek president expressed a wish that the next time that he visits Cyprus, international and European law will have been implemented.

He also expressed his sorrow over the fact that EU territory is under military occupation, which is something that cannot be tolerated.
