Greek property owners drained for another 3.2 bln euros in ENFIA

ENFIA notices will be ready by Thursday, October 15

The bitter moment of truth has arrived for Greek property owners who will receive the bill for their single property tax (ENFIA) payments. Last year, the controversial ENFIA tax yielded 2.65 billion euros for the conservative New Democracy (ND) government. Now, the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government is eyeing to squeeze another 3.2 billion euros from taxpayers who voted for the party following its pledge to scrap the tax altogether.

Real estate owners will have received their notices of payment gradually until Thursday, October 15. The notices will be posted online on Taxisnet after 10 p.m. on Saturday.  Nothing has changed in the calculation of the tax with levels remaining the same as last year, however there are fears that a large number of Greeks may not manage repayments after capital controls and a general worsening of the economy. The payments will be made in less instalments (5 rather than 6), meaning that taxpayers will need to pay higher amounts for each dose.
