Greeks hunt cheap homes abroad

Greek homeowners in London and in selected areas in Germany, due to the significant increase in prices arising of the competition from third party investors and the lack of liquidity has decreased to a minimum

According to an article by the Greek Sunday newspaper “Katimerini tis Kyriakis”, the amount of Greeks interested in the London home market is low as ever.

The reason being, according to a Greek estate agent in London speaking to the Greek newspaper is that, “British banks have become very strict with all foreign bidders and not only the Greeks. They have adopted very strict lending criteria and give mortgages in very good customers, usually those who utilize the services of private banking.

However, according to the newspaper some banks still give out mortgages but with a very high interest.

A similar situation applies in the German market were the prices have increased in the past years, however they remain much lower than the ones in London.
