HS student who fell from Rome hotel balcony dies; parents donate organs

The young girl succumbed to her injuries on Thursday

A 17-year-old Greek high school senior from the northern Greece city of Alexandreia, Imathia prefecture, died on Thursday night in Rome, just over a week after falling from the second floor hotel balcony in the city. The teenager was on a school class trip to the Italian capital.

Since then, with her parents by her side, the teen remained in a critical condition. Following her death, the parents announced that they will donate her organs in the hope that her death offers life to others.

Exact circumstances surrounding the accident that occurred on the Cristoforo Colombo Street hotel in downtown Rome remain clouded. Reports state that the girl fell to her death after other pupils went to their rooms to pack their suitcases for departure the next day. The teen, in the room with two classmates, reportedly did not feel well when she fell from the balcony at around 10 p.m.
