Indonesia – Australia: Diplomatic crisis deepens

Tony Abbott has made calls to Jakarta to postpone the execution of two Australian drug dealers

Tony Abbott denied Indonesia’s claims on “harrying” the country, as the diplomatic crisis deepens in view of the death sentence imposed on two Australians accused of drug dealing in Indonesia.

 

Australia’s government has made successive requests to Jakarta on postponing the execution of the two Australians.

 

Jakarta criticized Tony Abbott’s calls for leniency, claiming that the Australian PM was prone on reminding the humanitarian aid offered to Indonesia after the huge destruction wrought by 2004’s tsunami.

 

Abbott, on his part, clarified that he was referring to the “obvious close relation” of the two countries. When asked, he responded that he was underlining the close friendship which connects the two countries…
