Japan Tsunami warning: 6.5 magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast

Early reports say larger than usual waves have already been seen breaking

 

According to the United States Geological Survey an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck off the coast of Japan, 53 miles northeast of the island of Honshu, on Tuesday.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued a warning for a 0.2-1.0 meter tsunami along the northwest coast of the main island.

People have reportedly already seen larger than usual waves breaking at beaches in the north of the country.
