Jewish Cemetary vandalized in central Greece

Another racist act against Jews in Greece

A racist group known as Larissa Skins desecrated the Jewish cemetery in the city of Larissa in Thessaly, central Greece, with swastikas and anti-Semitic slurs. The city of Larissa has the third largest Jewish community in Greece, totaling a number of 5,000 Jews.

The Central Board of the Jewish Communities in Greece issued a statement to express their sorrow and condemn the desecration of the cemetery with swastikas and threats such as “six million more.”

“The desecration of a cemetery, which is a holy place for all religions is not only an insult to the memory of our dead brothers, but also an insult to the culture of our country and the city of Larissa,” says the statement.

Two months earlier, the Athens Holocaust Monument had been vandalized by graffiti signed by Unaligned Meander Nationalists, a hard-core ultra-nationalist neo-Nazi group. The same group had been responsible for vandalizing the Holocaust Monument on the isle of Rhodes in 2012.

Greece is believed to have the highest rate of anti-Semitic attitudes according to data by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) that shows that 69% of Greeks have anti-Semitic views.
