Juncker congratulates new Greek caretaker PM, adds: deal must proceed

Europeans waiting without intervening in yet another Greek election campaign

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker was very clear in his congratulatory letter to Greece’s new catetaker Prime Minister Vassiliki Thanou, limiting the diplomatic courtesies to his first paragraph.

The rest of the letter focused squarely on Greece’s responsibilities to implement the recent agreement with its creditors, regardless who was at the helm of the country.

In his letter, Juncker also placed a great deal of importance on tackling the migration crisis. Meanwhile, European officials are following the political developments in Greece from a distance, and have refrained so far from intervening in any way to sway public opinion on how to vote. They are, however, unequivocal regarding the adoption to the tee of all measures included in the deal between Greece and its partners.
