MOm rescued Andriana, a rare Mediterranean monk seal, and will release he at a marine park in Alonissos in March

The Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of Monk Seals, MOm, saved an orphan baby seal from an endangered species. The one-month old monk seal, named Andriana, was found critically ill in November just off the Aegean island of Skopelos. It had been separated from its mother for at least give days.

She received 25 days of treatment and responded well to medication after she gained wait. She is to be released at a marine park on the island of Alonissos in March and fitted with a satellite tracker.

According to MOm there are just 600 seals of Andriana’s species alive in the world today, mainly in Greece.
