Large asteroid comes within a hair’s breadth from earth on Sat

NASA says that the large asteroid is far away enough to save the planet from annihilation

An asteroid with the capability of killing millions is on its way to earth, warns NASA. Asteroid 86666 (2000 FL10) was first observed 16 years ago, and on Sunday it will scrape past earth by a mere 25 million kilometers.

Impact of the 2.6-km wide asteroid with earth would be devastating, comparable to that of many thousands of atomic bombs exploding simultaneously. If it landed in the sea, it would trigger tsunamis and huge tidal waves. Furthermore, sunlight would be blocked causing an artificial winter and resulting in extinction.
NASA says that this asteroid will be a hair’s breath away, but still well outside the 7 million kilometer zone that would indicate a risk of collision.
